About the Content
In this special podcast episode, the host, Yosi, reflects on the first 365 days of her YouTube channel, "Spanish with Yosi." She shares her personal journey, explaining that she started the channel out of a desire to share her experiences, knowledge, and love for languages, despite being an introvert. Yosi reveals that she began the channel during a difficult period of depression, admiring her past self for having the courage to start even when she wasn't well. Her passion for teaching and languages, ignited by discovering "comprehensible input" through a Japanese sensei on YouTube, inspired her to create "Spanish with Yosi" to teach Spanish in an engaging, comprehensible way. Yosi candidly discusses the challenges she faced, including an initial period of discouragement when she stopped uploading videos due to low subscriber numbers. She felt her time was better spent on other pursuits, questioning if content creation was truly for her. However, a surprising discovery of over 23 subscribers motivated her to return, realizing that even a small audience indicated her efforts were valued. She describes herself as a creative and fun teacher who loves planning engaging lessons, and this intrinsic drive to create eventually brought her back to YouTube. Her return saw her consistently uploading various types of content, including vlogs and voice-over videos, even while traveling through Europe as a digital nomad. Upon returning from Europe, Yosi experienced another dip in motivation, realizing that her channel wasn't fully aligning with her personal well-being. She openly shares that her depression resurfaced, prompting her to prioritize her mental health above all else. This led to a renewed commitment to self-care and a fresh start on January 1st, where she decided to fully embrace her dreams, including her YouTube channel and other personal projects like learning Japanese and planning travels. She views YouTube as a "university" that teaches patience, persistence, and consistency, emphasizing that true success lies in enjoying the journey rather than solely focusing on numbers. Yosi expresses immense gratitude for her community, highlighting that their comments, support, and engagement on platforms like Patreon are her primary motivators. She sees her channel and website as a classroom where she can fulfill her passion for teaching, emphasizing that she was "born to be a teacher." Looking ahead, Yosi has exciting plans, including a new travel series called "Una Profe por el Mundo" (A Teacher Around the World), where she will continue to teach Spanish through comprehensible input while exploring different countries. She reiterates her commitment to respecting her mental health by avoiding burnout and promises many more years of creating engaging content, podcasts, and travel adventures for her appreciative community.
